What are the warning signs of a hidden mold crisis in a Florida home?

The 7 warning signs of a hidden mold crisis include a musty odor when the AC turns on, discolored shadows on drywall, bubbling baseboards, unexplained respiratory health flares, indoor humidity above 60%, warping or cupping floorboards, and past plumbing leaks that were not professionally dried.

Why does my air conditioner smell musty when it turns on?

A damp or earthy odor when your AC kicks on usually indicates 'Systemic Growth'—meaning mold is established inside your evaporator coils or ductwork, and your HVAC system is actively seeding spores into every room.

Is indoor humidity above 60% dangerous in Florida?

Yes, if your indoor hygrometer consistently reads above 60% humidity, mold growth is inevitable. It indicates your HVAC system is failing to dehumidify the air or there is an active moisture vapor intrusion in the home.

Why are my baseboards bubbling and my wood floors cupping?

Bubbling baseboards and 'cupping' floorboards (where the edges are higher than the center) are strong indicators of hidden sub-floor moisture or condensation wicking up from the slab, which acts as the primary fuel for toxic black mold.
